Drawing inspiration from New York City and a heart pattern from Awake NY’s design canon, the collection consists of the Classic Crocs Slide in two distinct colorways. The brand’s heart pattern motif takes center stage as the inspiration behind the collaboration. The design is an ode to Baque’s grandmother’s Washington Heights home, where Baque spent summers as a kid. Baque infused his first Crocs collaboration with the sentiment “home is where the heart is,” an homage to a space that he looks back on fondly and informed his idea of what home and family mean to him today. “We’ve spent the past 18 months confined to our homes. Whether we were physically with family or connecting electronically with chosen family, it’s the people we love that have helped us through this uncertain time. The concept of ‘family’ has evolved, especially in the face of the pandemic. Whether it’s family that’s blood-related or not, the ones closest to us have gotten us through this past year and a half,” Baque said. “In designing the collection, the concept of ‘home is where the heart is,’ really stuck with me.
